Reading Material

big-new-yorker-book-of-cats-290For Christmas, with the help of J.S., I got everyone in my house The Big New Yorker Book of Cats. I wanted a book devoted to cat stories so that everyone could read me bedtime stories any time I started feeling sleepy. I’ve enjoyed The Big New Yorker Book of Cats so far, but it got me started thinking that perhaps I’d like another book to have read to me when this one’s finished. So I started asking around for ideas.

catsenseMy inquiries paid off. C.A. said I might want to consider a book called Cat Sense: How the New Feline Science Can Make You a Better Friend to Your Pet. It’s more of an educational book for humans published late last year and was written by Dr. John Bradshaw, a biologist who’s been studying cats for over 30 years. I think that must mean he knows a little bit about us. I’m sure I know everything that’s in this particular book, but I’ll enjoy watching my humans’ faces when they learn something new about me. The cat species is entirely too mysterious for humans and I think lots more kind, loving research should be done on how to make us happy!

Bachelor Pad

There’s this room in our house that kitties don’t get to go into until we bust through the door or sneak between someone’s legs to get in. The other day, I busted in before the door got closed all the way; thank goodness my ma had her arms full with clean sheets and a comforter or I never would have been able to look around. The room is awesome; I loved it in there. So I was thinking maybe I’d figure out a way to turn it into a Bachelor Pad for me and the boys … except the boys aren’t allowed it. I might let the girls in, though.

So, I was doing some research today on how I’d like it decorated. Here are some things I found. Tell me what you think!

This one would be great if there were an actual radiator in the room. I’ll settle for it being under the window

hammock

I do love hammocks, and this one looks sooooo comfy!

Max might like this one too much. Maybe I shouldn’t get this one!

A bed under a glass table with a full view of me? Perfect!!!

Is this one too much?

Petbed_02

I think I’d look good in red.

I think this one’s a must-have! It has extra space for food and water, with drawers for clean bedding that my servants would have to change every few days. But don’t wash them because I like how my orange fur looks on bedding.

A nice little cubby hole is always a good addition to any room!

Any old luggage will do for a bed. That way, I’ll know for sure that my humans won’t ever be able to go anywhere and leave me behind.

Also, there’s a rumor that this toy might be coming to my house. I’ll definitely have to hide it in my Bachelor Pad because I think my little sister, Penny, will freak out and hog it for herself! How selfish is that? I mean, why can’t I hog it?

This will be so much fun!

Dog … a copilot?

My mom’s brother …. I guess that would be my uncle … came to visit for Christmas. He has a dog who’s name is Princess Babaloo. Princess likes to play with kitties, or so I’m told. I didn’t really understand the game. I went outside to meet Princess and she’s HUGE (a pitbull mix, maybe with some boxer in there). Princess started running towards me and I ran away. Princess thought it was a game of chase and started running after me. I made it back inside safely, but mom said I made Princess sad because I wouldn’t play with her. What kind of game is that, anyway? I stayed safely away from her and am now not too sure about that whole going outside thing. There are dogs out there! Scary.

Anyway, here’s a video of me with a new Christmas feather my Uncle bought for me. I like him. He patted me, and held me, and loved me, and bought me feathers!

Look What I’ve found

I just ran across an artist named Shelagh Duffett from Nova Scotia who does artwork, and a lot of it is cat-themed. I love her work; it’s beautiful. Maybe, if you like the samples you see here, you might want to wander over to her etsy shop at Alice In Paris. She has her artwork for sale at a really reasonable rate. I’m not sure how much she sells the originals for, but I do love what she has on her site. I hope you like her artwork as much as I do.

Last Minute Gift Idea

Downton-Tabby-1There’s a fabulous new book out called Downton Tabby! It sells for just $10, but I’ve seen it on sale for only $8. How can you beat that price? If anyone’s looking for a fabulous gift, for your friends, family – or ME! – this could be it! Check it out now! I just wish I could have been in it!

Kitty Artwork

There’s a lady my mom got to work with; her name’s Stefanie and Stefanie used to volunteer for Berkeley Humane Society (she might still volunteer there, I’m not sure). Stefanie recently got to go visit some really big kitties at Big Cat Rescue in Florida. Every now and then, mom goes to Stefanie’s etsy page (which you can visit here). She found the pictured choker that mom thinks is just fabulous. So I got to thinking that maybe, if you’re still Christmas shopping, I should post a few good ideas for gifts for those cat lovers in your home. So, of course, the first one is the choker by Stefanie. Click on the links under the pictures and you’ll go directly to the website mom found the item on. Just keep in mind that mom’s looking at small businesses that may only produce one of each item, so if it’s been sold already, keep looking and maybe you’ll find something else worthwhile.

2009’s Worse Inventions

Please, please, please, if you’re going to invent a snuggy for cats, make sure it looks like clean laundry (or dirty laundry, it doesn’t matter really) or a freshly made bed (or not, that doesn’t really matter either) or your pillow. Because those are the only types of snuggies dignified kitties will “wear”.

Christmas Cards

Oliver's Card

Oliver’s Card

We got this card today from my good friend Oliver (aka Ollie). The picture of the card does NOT do this handsome cat justice. Oliver’s my idol because he has lots of cool hats, while I’m left without any. In fact, the only piece of clothing I have is a leather jacket that I don’t get to wear very often. In any case, how do I explain the coolness that is Oliver in his hat to my sister, Penny, who can’t see it? I don’t know, but I must have done an ok job, because she’s been dancing around the house humming La Cucaracha all morning long.

Sylvester, the Talking Cat

Who knows Sylvester, the talking cat? He’s a bit cranky, but my kind of kitty. Sometimes he has some interesting things to say. Here’s a Christmas video of him. You have to watch to the end because Shelby, the dog, gets a little carried away with her Christmas present and it’s funny. Hahahahaha.
